The purpose of this site is to provide an integrated resource that collects and distributes as much information as possible about what the specific immediate needs are in Haiti, for specific people / organizations, at specific locations in Haiti.

We have a separate page with specific news feeds at Haiti Earthquake Information News that collects feeds and tweets with info for such requests for supplies and aid. We will make this information available to the appropriate aid groups, as we discover them. We also will respond directly to the requests where we can, which is possible in some cases where information is needed. (Examples below)

More importantly, anyone who wants to help can use these tools to read the urgent requests for help, and to try to search for and find the requested resources in a nearby location, and then to make that info available to the persons in need.

Searching Twitter with #haiti #needs, or #haiti #location, etc. to find people requesting specific needs at specific locations.

First example: There was a request for the phone number of a specific doctor, Dr. Degand in Haiti. It was possible to google for that phone number from the US, and then to send it by reply tweet to the party in need.

Second example, @robinbauer tweeted about the need for food and water, at a specific orphanage, and gave the orphanage name, but not the address. We replied, asking for the address, so that we could search on this end for supplies that may be very nearby in Haiti, but unknown to people in desparate need:

Kudos to the good folks at Project Epic, who designed and promoted the #hashtag specific Twitter tags that are now in use by us and others to help focus the needed requests and searches on Twitter for urgently needed resources in Haiti.
